A Saga of Satguru Jagjit Singh ji
A SAGA OF
SRI SATGURU JAGJIT SINGH JI
- A BRIEF
BIOGRAPHY IN ENGLISH
“A Saga
of Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji”, a brief biography written in English by Dr.
Sharada Jayagovind is a soul-nourishing insight into the life of His Holiness
Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh ji. The author has made a wholehearted attempt to
consolidate the sequence of events and occurrences from Sri Satguru ji’s life
in a coherent manner, which shall be a spiritual awakening experience for all
readers. The honest chronicle, depicting all aspects of Sri Satguru ji’s
personality, gives this book its enduring force.
Sri
Satguru Jagjit Singh ji was an ocean of love, compassion and peace. His life
centered on the principles of truth, compassion, seva and devotion. Sri Satguru
ji's life and journey is one of adherence to path of righteousness despite
harsh tests and obstacles and many pains of life and time. The purity and
empathy in Sri Satguru ji’s intentions and actions inspires affection and
devotion for him in the hearts of millions.
The
writer of this book hails from South India. Mysterious are the ways of
Almighty. No one would have envisaged that someone from the State of Karnataka
would have the privilege to pen Sri Satguru ji’s biography. The way in
which Dr. Sharada Jayagovind got this assignment makes very interesting
reading. In early 2015, Satguru Uday Singh ji took upon himself the noble task
of getting a few discourses of His Holiness Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh ji
translated into English so that the fragrance of the teachings of Sri Satguru
ji would reach out to a bigger readership. (These have already been compiled
and published under the title “Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh ji – Discourses”).
In one of
the conversations with his friend Mr Prashanta Bhat, an architect based in
Bangalore, Satguru Uday Singh Ji shared his quest for a good English writer who
could help with the translation of discourses and write a biography of His
Holiness Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji. Mr Bhat introduced him to his aunt, Dr.
Sharada Jayagovind. She shared some of her literary publications including
biographies. She is a pious lady with good experience of writing simple, understandable
and effective English. As destiny holds, impressed by her writing skills,
Satguru Uday Singh ji asked her to write the biography of His Holiness Sri
Satguru Jagjit Singh ji.
Satguru
Uday Singh ji communicated to the writer his wish that the biographical
research methodology be original. She would have to collect facts and
information about Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh ji’s life through the series of
in-depth interviews and personal narratives. This would make the engagement
more challenging and exciting. The writer, along with her associate, Ms. Renuka
Phadnis, a seasoned journalist, made a series of visits to Sri Bhaini Sahib,
Sri Jiwan Nagar, Mastan Garh and Malerkotla. During these visits, she conducted
more than one hundred interviews with subas, office bearers, historians,
sewaks, musicians and many others who shared the reminiscences of their beloved
Sri Satguru ji.
The
writer interviewed Sri Mata Chand Kaur ji in April, 2015 at Sri Bhaini Sahib.
Satguru Uday Singh ji took special interest to supervise the progress of the
script and was the source for considerable information. He ensured that all the
necessary facilities and resources were placed at the disposal of the writer
for the successful completion of this literary project. The whole extensive
exercise embedded with immense efforts and hard work consumed nearly nineteen
months before the book was finally sent for printing.
The
writer has meticulously divided the script of the book into eight chapters
covering different phases and facets of Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh ji’s dynamic
personality. The book also houses a separate chapter dedicated to loving
mother, Sri Mata Chand Kaur ji, providing a revelation into her world of seva
and devotion.
The
following lines quoted from the biography could well stand as the book’s
epigraph –
“If a
doll of salt steps into the fathomless ocean to measure its depth, the
grandeur, majesty and the mysteries of the ocean are beyond its grasp. It would
melt and become one with the waters. Similar was my experience when I set out
to write the life story of His Holiness Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh ji, the
Namdhari Sikh Guru. He is as tall as the Himalayas, as pure as the holy rivers
and endless as the vast skies.”
We invite
everyone to join us on this spiritual journey into the life of beloved Patsha
Ji - His Holiness Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh ji by reading his biography.
